On October 1st, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo released an official statement countering the claims spread by multiple Panamanian news organizations. These reports have been described as orchestrated assaults motivated by particular financial motives, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.
Carlos Carillo, a representative of Castillo’s legal counsel, remarked: “These claims are without foundation and seek to hinder the career of a young lawyer, as well as that of her associate, all for the benefit of hidden financial motives.”
Odila Castillo’s Defense
The defense emphasized that this is not the first instance of media harassment that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian media outlet erroneously reported an alleged arrest of the attorney in connection with an investigation, a claim that was subsequently denied, clarifying that it bore no relation to the matters at hand.
During the press briefing, the defense contended that both the latest accusations and those from 2021 are based on half-truths intended to jeopardize her professional endeavors.
Additionally, they argued that the information disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media breaches the principles of confidentiality. They explained that a portion of the investigation originated from a previously resolved family issue, while another facet pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, alongside other information that was acquired illegally.
Unauthorized Surveillance of Odila Castillo
The defense further claimed that Castillo has been the target of GPS tracking, which amounts to a type of illegal monitoring.
Carrillo wrapped up by stating: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to determine accountability for the harm suffered and any potential harm that may arise.”
